The Punjabis who are working as farm labor currently in Italy are the future owners of Italian farms.
One of the most productive agriculture land in the world is located in the central valley of California and significant amount of that land is owned by Punjabi farmers who or their families originally started as farm labor and than moved on to becoming farm owners.
Same thing happened in the lower mainland of British Columbia in Canada and same thing is happening in Australia.

some of the comments here are uninformed - which really is avoidable in this day of net access. every country imports labour - india inlcuded - from nepal and bangladesh in our case. it is upto that country to have a well run legal immigration system.

i agree illegal immigrants are breaking the laws but it is not a perfect world. As to taking jobs away - if the locals were willing to work as hard at the low remuneration paid no jobs would be lost.

India will reach replacement level fertility rate - 2.1 children per woman of reproductive age, by 2020 ! Yes the country has a big population and is struggling with lots of issues but so did Europe struggle with similar issues in the 17th and 18th centuries. And some of your problems were made better by forcible transfer of wealth from our countries to you.

So think of it as a win-win situation. You get to sell cheap vegetables with hard working/non company get illegals. And in the next generation they will get better jobs

make it illegal for them to go there. Italian unemployment is big, trust me, there will be italians working there for a fair wage and not an illegal wage. Supermarkets should get the cut on profits, not the worker.

Most of the Indian immgrants here are from Panjab state in north west of India next to Pakistan, This are Sikhs of India most of them are poor and uneducated. Panjab is a agricultural state the land is very fertile rich but their are no other possibilities to grow further in Panjab. Most of the panjabis leave there state and go to the other rich parts of the India for work or they go outside India. Panjabi have a smilar mentality like a Pakistanis they only think of their religion and their own community they will not mix with others.

It is the italian govt's fault, they know well what is going on. They llok the other way as italy earns a lot from the exports of these vegies, fruits , cheese etc . What is wrong is to make these poor immigrants pay airfair and touts. Italian govt should pay them , ensure there are proper job contracts. As a penalty, italy should now pay india compensation for each indian they exploited.

Except for the 'on paper' illegality of working in a foreign country, the Sikh community of India is actually working till their backs turn sore and helping these European farmlands make profits hand over fist. Atleast, unlike some of the other communities that immigrate simply to terrorise other countries and their common people through illegal trade in narcotics and such other shitty products, the Indians are helping Europe grow its daily bread. I don't see anything illegal in it. By growing food, they are in a way giving life and not taking it from anyone. Something that all of India should be proud about.

So if no Italians want to work in the agricultural sector, and Italian companies and Punjabi workers benefit from this work, maybe India and Italy should negotiate some kind of a foreign worker program. I guess that would make too much sense. Bear in mind, these folks are not refugees, they're workers.

attraction of foreign currencies and seeing their neighbours getting lavish items etc makes these people left their homeland ,, most of them have had land in their state but they sell them in order to arrange money to immigrate . He has a large house, mid range furniture, he looks well fed and well dressed, his family joined him, he has a car too.....are they really paying him peanuts?............. He says that back home he was running his own business and kept his own working hours while herehe is only paid if he works, what a silly guy why does he not go back to India, what is keeping him here?????
Also, in which european country can one expect to become rich by picking crops???? Fools. They complain about the criminal system that exploit them but it is them who chose of break the law with the help of those thugs who helped them to get to Italy illegally.
This program is nonsense, it is very easy to find out whether or not the workers are irregulars without a contract....go to the police and ask them to check. There are many unemployed journalists and I think this is the real problem: they need to find people willing to spin sorry tales so that they can patch up documentaries like this. Of course this fatty guy will not tell us how much money in family benefits he gets from the italian government, not to mention free health care. As for the guy with a big belly who complains about doing a "BACKBREAKING JOB" may I suggest that what is really breaking his back is his obesity.

If they had worked here in India they would have got same life style,I don't know why do they go to other country,I got few jobs in gulf but I didn't go,home is home, does not matter what country you are in?
Plenty of Indian think they will be rich if they will go foreign but it is not true, there is a very good saying grass is greener on other side and it's suit on them.
I am living in India and I am living better life than them,if you are well qualified and you are getting a good package in your line like software engineer then you should go otherwise there is no point to going to a foreign country.
They went illegally to Italy so what do they expect? If you are going illegally then you are trapped because you can't return to india, embassy wouldn't give you passport and whatever you get in foreign, you have to accept it because you don't have a choice.

This is like a 'Politically Correct BJ'. You migrate to a country illegally and instead of being thrown out, you are allowed to make a living. But now you want equality and labor laws and blah blah. Dafaq legally son! And five and a half Euros as hourly wage; that ain't bad, especially considering the fact that we Indians are used to slogging our arses 10-14 hours or even more for peanuts under our watchful labor laws.
Skilled labors with their life savings are migrating (legally) on daily basis and yet they end up nowhere. Making a living ain't easy!!
