Is this chocolate hazelnut spread different from Nutella then? I would think that it would be similar. However, one thing I do know is that German chocolate tends to have less sugar in it than that sold in America and even the UK so I'm wondering whether it has anything to do with that.

There are different ways to prepare red cabbage. If not done right, it is really quit not good. ...and as you I prefer a chocolate spread over hazelnut spread.

Funny you mention Schwarzbrot. I grew up in Germany and I used to HATE it. Spent half a year in the US, first thing I was craving when I came back? Schwarzbrot 😂 And I love it ever since. Always worth trying certain foods again 😊

This is no Currywurst. This looks like Bratwurst with curry on it. And nutella raw is gross. Like the Schwarzbrot. You habe to combine it. Haselnutcreme on Schwarzbrot is nice. Salt on redish ? Poor redish. Oh there are many quality differences. Dont buy the big ones they taste like waterbeans. The naturel grown are very good.

I love HOMEMADE Rotkohl or Blaukraut. Nutella or Nocciola is awesome. That's Pumpernickel isnt it? I lije the stuff. Love Radisches. What thing I do loathe are the gummy Kartoffelknödeln( Klöse) in Bavaria...they make me gag. Remind me of chewing gum. Sorry. No, they are not similar to gnocchi
Semmelknödel ( Klöse) are yummy.

Try homemade Rotkohl with homemade mash potatoes, takes it to a different level on your palate.
Curry Wurst is often done with low quality bratwurst, regardless of "fein or grobe Bratwurst". Try a Rindscurrywurst to sample the whole range. Cheap Ketchup and stale old Curry powder can spoil the experience as well.

Pretzel brodt have never seen it out of Germany was addicted, Schwarz brodt has it's equivalent all over Northern Europe if you aren't brought up with it... not so much I think. It was survival food for at least 1000 yrs I suspect. My Danish friends feed it too me all the time so I eat it. Do I like it? not really. It's healthier than Parisian baguette

The taste varies with the brand you buy. I just really like a speacial brand of foods, for example nutella is good - nusskati not. You have to try different brands to find out if you really dislike a food.

I don't like Sauerkraut, but I know as child I really liked it. BUT very curious: I like kimchi. XD I love Rotkohl and Brussels sprouts (fav vegetable of my boyfriend). Eat Schwarzbrot with "Aachener Pflümli" (Pflaumenmus). Or what my granny often did: Weißbrot (dicke scheiben vom Bäcker) + Butter + Gouda + Schwarzbrot oder mit Rübenkraut (IDK if you can get Rübenkraut somewhere else than in NRW/at the Niederrhein). To eat Currywurst go to the Ruhrpott, many "Büdchen" or some small restaurants have their own sauce. :) Or a different sausage. and get it with fries. (maybe directly trying Currywurst + Pommes Schranke... yummi) .

Red cabbage goes also pretty well with Bratwurst or meatloaf, brown sauce and mashed potatoes. But you're right, red cabbage and duck is very common. Especially on Christmas. Also with some kind of potatoes and brown sauce.
Yeah, hazelnut cream is very popular here. Many candy snacks are made with it. It's similar with peanut butter candy in the US I guess.
Schwarzbrot. Well this is a "You love it" or you "dislike it" thing. But as with red cabbage: you need some things to it. In this case: Put farmer cheese and herbs on it. Or Salami or whatever.
Licorice is more popular in the north of Germany then in the south (statistic). Especially the salty one. I personal don't like it either.
Radish goes pretty well with a sandwich. Or in small slices in a salad with other mixed vegetables. You can also cut it in slices and put a bit of salt on top and eat it with a sandwich. Yeah, the spicy kick is kind of mustard spice or a much less intense version of Wasabi. In fact: radish, horse radish and wasabi are closely related.
Die Currywurst. My dear Americans: THIS is the most German fastfood. And Döner (from Turkish-German takeaway diners). A Currywurst is basically a Bratwurst in slices with a kind of ketchup (not really ketchup, it’s kinda fruity) sauce (a lot!) and lots of curry powder on top. Often goes with French fries. Nearly every diner in Germany has its own recipe for the sauce. Like the spare rips, homemade BBQ sauce or chicken wings in the US diners.

Most of those things are not meant to be eaten by themselves. Rohtkohl needs to be be eaten with a roasted meat like Sauerbraten or Entenbraten and a starch and a starch like Spätzle. Schwarzbrot needs to be eaten with Braunschweiger or Salami.

Radishes. The authentic Mexican restaurants serve radishes and limes with beef steak tacos. I like them in or out of the main salads or courses. Hazelnut spread has to be with chocolate or regular peanut butter.

Rotkohl doesn't even exist in Munich. And Blaukraut from a can cannot be good. Have it as part of a meal. Licorice isn't really German. Yes, it's a thing. But the Danish, Dutch and Swedish are far more into it. Glad you somewhat liked the Radieserl aka Radieschen. Pretty much a prerequisite to become a true Munich citizen. Currywurst. Not really Bavarian. We couldn't care less. Doesn't make you less of a Munich girl if you don't like it.

Rotkohl is one of my favorite side dishes! With apple(sauce) of course! YUM!
You need to put something on the Schwarzbrot... like cheese or "Leberwurst".
I see why people would dislike licorice but I like it.
Radishes, yum but not all the time. I DO enjoy them once in a while but not daily.
And Currywurst is SO different from stand to stand! The sauce and the sausage itself can be SO DIFFERENT!

Did you ever tried selfmade really good red cabbage? The red cabbage you can buy is usually quite terrible. In that crap they use sugar and vinegar. It´s inedible and is not comparable to real traditional homemade red cabbage.

EricB256
EricB256 - Vor 2 Tage
You got to put the right spices into your Blaukraut a/k/a Rotkohl: Gewürznelken, Piment, the right kind of vinegar, a teaspoon of honey to balance it out, ein geriebener Apfel und eine gehackte Zwiebel are what I would suggest. Maybe you've put in something different? That Nougatcreme really is to Germany like peanut butter is to the US as far as popularity is concerned. Have you tried Cashewmus before? It's delicious! Oh, and why eat Schwarzbrot when there are so many amazing Vollkornbrot options that taste so much better. Wouldn't you agree? Radish salad tastes better if, for the dressing, you don't use vinegar but lemon juice instead. I wouldn't eat it pure just with salt, though. That just sounds very Bavarian Biergarten Brotzeit style to me. You know it's the kind of environment where people would eat Pressack and Sülze to accompany their beer for breakfast like you wouldn't believe.
I could do without Käsefondue. It's just way too boring, both the taste and the experience. And if you want a recommendation for a really hard drink: have you tried Brottrunk before? ;-)

The "Rotkohl" ready prepared from the Supermarkt or from the Restaurant is disgusting, i only like the "Rotkohl" from my mother, who made it not so sour and more mild and it is so delicious.... so if you don't like the "rotkohl" it can be, that you only eat the "wrong one"

No idea what would make your eyes tear up in Rotkohl, but sure, not everyone likes that or its smell. Mine is pretty popular with Americans :)
Not liking Nutella, but liking peanut butter just always leaves me speechless. Hazelnuts and chocolate are a delicious combo, but peanut butter is just sticky - yuck! Just like the Pumpernickel you would never eat it by itself. Never! Nutella goes best on a fresh crusty bun, and the Pumpernickel wants a thick buttering and some nice smoked Westfalenschinken.
Strong flavors like Handkäs, Oabatzta, or Radieschen are of course not everyone´s thing, just like burning your mouth out with hot peppers isn´t. That goes for Germans too.

The radish can be very tasty with cremecheese ore freshcheese.
After going Vegan my taste switched to very different things i still love hazelnutcreme even as a topic for vanillaice but with cheese gone for good i love to eat realy spicy and deftig (how someone can say deftig in english??).
Cooking with three different sorts of oil and even buying Buchenraucharoma to spice it up a bit more. But thats the beauty about the flavors their are so many that everyone can find its special one. And it would be realy boring if we all would eat the same and where the same.
